Tensions have escalated along the Line of Control (LoC) following India's "Operation Sindoor," with reports of heavy shelling by Pakistani troops resulting in the death of three Indian civilians in Jammu and Kashmir. The shelling occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, May 7, 2025, targeting forward villages in the Poonch and Rajouri districts.

Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian Armed Forces in response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The operation involved precision strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). These targets were identified as locations from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed. The Indian Army stated that the strikes were focused on terrorist infrastructure, with no Pakistani military facilities targeted.

In retaliation to India's operation, Pakistani forces initiated heavy mortar shelling on Indian posts and civilian areas along the LoC. The indiscriminate firing and shelling resulted in the tragic loss of three innocent lives. In addition to the fatalities, there are reports of injuries to civilians and damage to property due to the shelling. The Indian Army has responded "proportionately" to the Pakistani firing.

The strikes by India targeted key terrorist infrastructure, including headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke and Jaish-e-Mohammad in Bahawalpur. According to sources, special precision munitions were used to target the terror camps. The operation was a joint effort by the three services, with mobilization of assets and troops.

The situation remains tense, with heightened military activity and disruptions reported in the region. Several airports in northern India were temporarily closed.
