In response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the death of 26 civilians, India launched "Operation Sindoor," a precision strike targeting nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation, executed by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, utilized special precision munitions and involved significant troop and asset mobilization.
The operation was a direct response to the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam attack, where terrorists linked to LeT attacked tourists in Kashmir, killing 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the terrorists shot tourists in the head in front of their family members. India presented evidence of Pakistan-based terrorists' involvement in the Pahalgam attack, expecting Pakistan to take action against these terrorists and their support infrastructure. However, India claimed that Pakistan denied involvement and made allegations of false flag operations against India.
The strikes under "Operation Sindoor" were conducted between 1:05 AM and 1:30 AM. According to Colonel Sofia Qureshi of the Indian Army and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh of the Indian Air Force, the operation aimed to deliver justice to the victims of the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The targeted sites included key terror infrastructure used to plan and direct terrorist attacks against India. These included a Lashkar base in Muridke, a Jaish camp in Kotli, and a Hizbul facility in Sialkot. India has released visuals and emphasized that the strikes were measured and non-escalatory, carefully avoiding any military or civilian sites.
Following the strikes, Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that the action was a befitting reply to those who challenge India's borders, military, and citizens. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh stated that the targets were destroyed with precision and that India had exercised its right to respond thoughtfully and in a measured manner. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar reinforced the global need for zero tolerance towards terrorism.
The United States acknowledged the strikes, with President Donald Trump stating he was not surprised. National Security Advisor AJ Doval briefed his American counterpart and Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the actions taken. Rubio stated that Washington would continue to engage with both India and Pakistan towards a peaceful resolution. While the United Nations urged both countries to exercise restraint and de-escalate tensions, countries including Israel and the UAE supported India's right to self-defense, urging restraint from both nations. China urged both New Delhi and Islamabad to prioritize peace and stability.
India has asserted its readiness to retaliate if Pakistan escalates the situation. The Indian Armed Forces, according to Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, are fully prepared to give a befitting reply to any misadventure from Pakistan in the future.
