Bollywood actress Kajol has found herself at the center of a social media storm after an incident at the Maharashtra State Film Awards 2025 in Mumbai on August 5. The actress, who was present with her mother, veteran actress Tanuja, was interacting with the media and responding to questions primarily in Marathi and English. However, when a reporter requested Kajol to repeat her statement in Hindi, she appeared visibly irked.
Kajol responded to the reporter's request by saying, "Abhi main Hindi mein bolu? Jisko samajhna hai woh samajh lenge (Now should I speak in Hindi too? Those who want to understand what I said, will figure it out)". This statement and the video capturing the moment quickly went viral, triggering mixed reactions from netizens. Some social media users expressed disappointment and criticized the actress for her reaction, while others defended her choice not to repeat her statement in Hindi.
Critics of Kajol's behavior have stated things such as, "After earning so much money and fame through the Hindi Audience, Kajol says "ab Hindi mein bolun? Jisko samajhna hai samajh le," and "Never expected such reply from u Ma'am after all we are Indian". Other comments included, "Madam Kajol plz make film in Marathi only. Don't want to make it in Hindi," and calls for a boycott of the actress. Some felt that she should be respectful while denying to speak in Hindi.
However, there were also those who supported Kajol. Some fans defended her, pointing out that she was at a Marathi event, speaking to Marathi media, and that it should be acceptable for her to speak Marathi. Others noted that she did speak in Hindi during her award acceptance speech. Some fans asked if the same rule should apply to actors like Kamal Hassan or Prabhas.
Meanwhile, Punjabi singer Karan Aujla is facing scrutiny for his recently released song "MF Gabhru". The Punjab State Women's Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the song, citing the use of objectionable and derogatory language towards women. The commission has directed the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) to appoint a senior officer to investigate the case and has summoned Aujla to appear before them on August 11, 2025.
The official music video for "MF Gabhru," which was composed, written, and sung by Karan Aujla with music by Ikky, was released on August 1, 2025. The song has garnered over 34 million views but has also faced criticism for its allegedly misogynistic and inappropriate lyrics.
In connection to this, the Punjab State Women's Commission has also taken aim at Honey Singh's older song "Millionaire", citing similarly objectionable content. Both Karan Aujla and Honey Singh have been summoned to appear before the commission on Monday, August 11, 2025. Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill has expressed strong objections to the lyrics in both songs, deeming them disrespectful and degrading to women. Gill stated that such language cannot be tolerated and indicated that these songs may be banned. She also emphasized that singers are the voice of society and should not use abusive language, especially towards women.
