The White House has stated that President Trump is keen to see a de-escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan "as quickly as possible". This comes amid escalating military actions between the two countries, following India's strikes on alleged terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the situation, emphasizing that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio are actively involved. Leavitt acknowledged the long-standing animosity between the two nations but highlighted President Trump's good relations with the leaders of both countries. She conveyed the President's desire to see the conflict de-escalate rapidly.

Tensions have risen following precision strikes by the Indian Armed Forces targeting what they claimed were terror launchpads within Pakistan and PoK. These strikes were a response to an attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people, mostly tourists. In addition to the strikes, there have been reports of explosions near the Awantipora air base in south Kashmir and drone activity in Jammu and Punjab. India has also claimed to have thwarted attempts by the Pakistani military to attack Indian military installations using drones and missiles. Srinagar airport was also reportedly hit by a suspected drone attack.

The U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is reportedly in constant contact with leaders from both India and Pakistan. The White House has affirmed that the situation is a priority for U.S. diplomatic efforts.
