Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated dramatically following a series of cross-border attacks and retaliatory measures, plunging the region into a state of high alert. The current crisis was ignited by a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people, predominantly tourists. India responded with "Operation Sindoor," a series of precision strikes targeting alleged terrorist camps within Pakistan.

Pakistan condemned the Indian strikes, claiming they targeted civilian areas and resulted in casualties. In retaliation, Pakistan launched missile and drone attacks aimed at Indian military bases and cities. These attacks occurred on the intervening night of May 8-9, with targets including Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur. India's air defense systems, particularly the S-400, successfully intercepted many of the incoming missiles and drones, preventing significant damage. However, one drone did manage to hit the Jammu airport.

India has claimed to have shot down several Pakistani aircraft, including an F-16 and two JF-17s, as well as an Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS). Furthermore, India reports it neutralized a key air defense system in Lahore. Pakistan, on the other hand, alleges that it has downed numerous Indian drones.

In response to the escalating situation, India has initiated operations in the Arabian Sea targeting Pakistani assets. Blackouts have been enforced in several Indian cities, including Jammu, Jaisalmer and Firozpur, as a precautionary measure. Explosions have been reported in various locations, including Samba, Poonch, and Jammu. Firing has also resumed across the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara and Uri. The Indian aviation authorities closed 24, and then 32, airports in view of the escalating tensions.

The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with the G7 urging both India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint and engage in direct dialogue. Former U.S. President Donald Trump has also called for a quick de-escalation of the conflict.

Amid the heightened tensions, misinformation and fake news are spreading, prompting the Press Information Bureau (PIB) to debunk false claims circulating on social media. The situation remains volatile, with both sides accusing each other of escalating the conflict and engaging in provocative actions.
