The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has launched the Artificial Intelligence Quotient (AIQ) program, a structured AI education initiative for K-12 students. This program is a collaborative effort with Get Set Learn (GSL), a future-skills-focused startup backed by the Arvind Mafatlal Group. AIQ is part of IIT Guwahati's flagship 'Project Vidhya' and aims to advance digital and AI literacy through a research-backed curriculum, faculty-led interventions, and nationwide outreach.
The AIQ program introduces students to Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT) through hands-on projects, guided digital learning, and real-world problem-solving. The curriculum, co-developed with IIT Guwahati, ensures research-driven excellence and structured progression. It covers AI, Robotics, IoT, and ethical technology use, requiring no prior coding experience. The program is based on the Absorb, Analyse, Apply, Evaluate, and Innovate (A3EI) model, with over 60% of the program being project-based, allowing students to build real portfolios. Students tackle thematic challenges via GSL's SOLVE IT platform, with feedback from IIT Guwahati faculty. Workshops like AI Storytelling and Art of Prompting enhance real-world relevance. A dedicated module addresses algorithmic bias, data privacy, and responsible technology use.
The AIQ program is divided into three progressive levels:
Each level includes a custom textbook developed by IIT Guwahati, delivered through workshops, technology immersions, and guided digital learning. Students completing the program will receive a joint certification from IIT Guwahati and Get Set Learn.
The AIQ program is aligned with national priorities such as AICTE's declaration of 2025 as the 'Year of AI', NITI Aayog's 'AI for All' initiative, and global frameworks including UNESCO's guidelines on AI in education. The rollout begins in the 2025–26 academic year, starting with Grade 6 and gradually expanding to higher levels.
Dr. Gaurav Trivedi, Principal Investigator of Project Vidhya at IIT Guwahati, stated that AIQ is one of India's first structured AI programs for middle school students. He added that the goal is to foster creativity, critical thinking, and ethical awareness while introducing learners to emerging technologies early on. Ameet Zaveri, CEO and Co-founder of GSL, mentioned that in collaboration with IIT Guwahati, they have created a rigorous, accessible program that reflects both national education goals and global best practices, and they are committed to making AI literacy inclusive and future-ready.
