Hours after a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan was reached, India accused Pakistan of violating the truce. The agreement, which aimed to halt escalating military actions, was allegedly breached shortly after it was implemented.
The ceasefire was agreed upon after a period of heightened tensions, including cross-border attacks and accusations between the two countries. U.S. President Donald Trump announced the agreement on Truth Social, stating that it was reached after talks mediated by the United States. Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also confirmed the news.
India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that Pakistan had repeatedly violated the ceasefire understanding and that the Indian armed forces were responding appropriately. He urged Pakistan to address the violations with seriousness and responsibility. Misri also stated that the armed forces have been instructed to "deal strongly with violations along the border". Multiple explosions were reported in cities in Indian-controlled Kashmir. Following the explosions, blackouts were enforced in some areas. Omar Abdullah, a political leader from Jammu and Kashmir, questioned the ceasefire after hearing explosions in Srinagar.
Conflicting reports emerged regarding the violations. Pakistan's Information Minister told Geo News that no violations of the ceasefire had occurred. However, India maintained its stance, with reports of drones being spotted and explosions heard in Jammu and Kashmir. According to Al Jazeera, a security analyst said the reported truce violations underscore how fragile peace is along the Line of Control (LoC).
Despite the accusations, Pakistan stated its commitment to implementing the ceasefire agreement. According to Reuters, Pakistan's prime minister said that Pakistan has been 'positive' about the ceasefire.
The ceasefire agreement stipulated a cessation of all firing and military action on land, in the air, and at sea, effective from 5 p.m. Indian Standard Time on May 10, 2025. The Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMO) from both sides were scheduled to hold further discussions on May 12, 2025.
Amid the conflicting reports, several countries and organizations have reacted to the ceasefire. The UK Foreign Secretary welcomed the ceasefire and urged both parties to sustain it.
The situation remains tense, with both sides closely monitoring the border and অভিযোগ of violations continuing.
