In response to recent events, the Indian Navy has asserted its readiness and credible deterrent posture to counter any potential aggression from Pakistan. This declaration follows the deployment of substantial naval forces in the Northern Arabian Sea, including a carrier battle group, surface combatants, submarines, and naval aviation assets.
The Indian Navy's deployment was triggered by a terror attack in Kashmir, where 26 tourists were killed by an organization linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba. In response to this attack, India swiftly mobilized its naval forces, demonstrating its commitment to national security. Within 96 hours of the attack, the Navy conducted long-range precision strike drills, showcasing its readiness to respond to any threats. These drills involved Visakhapatnam-class destroyers and Talwar-class frigates launching BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.
Vice Admiral A N Pramod, Director General of Naval Operations, stated that the Indian Navy remained forward deployed in the Northern Arabian Sea with the capacity to strike select targets at sea and on land, including Karachi. This forward deployment compelled Pakistani naval and air units to adopt a defensive posture, primarily remaining inside harbors or close to their coast. The Indian Navy closely monitored the location and movement of Pakistani units throughout this period.
The Indian Navy emphasized that its actions were part of a coordinated effort with the Indian Army and Air Force, operating under an "escalation control mechanism". While the Navy did not directly participate in the initial strikes of Operation Sindoor, it played a crucial role in maintaining a deterrent posture and contributing to Pakistan's request for a ceasefire. The "telling maneuvers" in the Arabian Sea by the Indian Navy put pressure on Pakistan.
The Navy's deployment also served to test and refine tactics and procedures, ensuring the readiness of its crew, armament, equipment, and platforms. Multiple anti-ship firings were conducted to revalidate the platforms, systems, and crew for long-range precision offensive strikes.
The Indian Navy's actions demonstrate its commitment to safeguarding the nation's maritime interests and its capability to respond effectively to any threats. Despite reports of ceasefire violations, Indian forces have reiterated their readiness to respond to any further escalation. The Indian Navy remains deployed at sea in a credible deterrent posture, prepared to respond decisively to any hostile action by Pakistan or Pakistan-based terrorists.
The deployment showcased India's BrahMos cruise missiles and the increasing modernization of the Pakistani Navy and emerging threats from Chinese warships in the Indian Ocean. New Delhi is investing in its naval forces to counter old and new threats.
