Faisal Patel, son of the late Congress stalwart Ahmed Patel, has recently praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, particularly in the handling of Operation Sindoor, the military response to terror bases in Pakistan following the deadly Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 civilian lives. This commendation comes amidst Congress's criticism of the BJP-led government's handling of the operation.
In an interview with ANI, Faisal Patel lauded the Prime Minister's approach to governance and crisis management. He stated, "It can't be better than who's running the show (the central government)... The armed forces have done a great job, and PM Narendra Modi showed great leadership and brought us out of a huge crisis". He further expressed his admiration for the armed forces and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar. "I am proud of our armed forces. I have a lot of respect for Jaishankar ji," he added.
Faisal also applauded the Prime Minister's strategy of appointing capable bureaucrats to key ministerial roles. “How Modi ji picks up bureaucrats and makes them leaders and puts them in Ministry roles, is a very good thing,” he said.
When asked about his earlier statement, "this country is run in safe hands and it's run by capable leaders," Faisal clarified that his remark was meant for the armed forces. He emphasized that India can sleep well at night because of the armed forces.
Despite praising PM Modi, Faisal Patel confirmed his continued support for the Congress party, while also acknowledging the challenges it faces. He pointed out that the party is facing internal issues, with the advice of capable and senior leaders not being heeded. He noted that Rahul Gandhi is a hardworking leader. Faisal expressed his disappointment with being sidelined within the Congress and blamed Rahul Gandhi's advisors for the fall of Congress. He believes that he can assist the party with minority communities and regional issues. He also stated that not being given the ticket from the family, he and his sister had hoped for, to the Aam Aadmi Party caused them to lose 26 seats.
Faisal Patel's remarks have sparked considerable discussion, given his family's long-standing association with the Congress party. His father, the late Ahmed Patel, was a key figure in the Congress and a close aide to Sonia Gandhi. Faisal's acknowledgement of PM Modi's leadership and governance has been interpreted by some as a significant endorsement, especially at a time when the Congress is seeking to regain political ground.
