Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced on Tuesday the bust of a Pakistan Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror network. In a joint operation with the SBS Nagar Police, Counter Intelligence Jalandhar arrested five operatives, including three juveniles, from the Tonk and Jaipur districts of Rajasthan.
According to DGP Yadav, the terror module was operated by foreign-based handlers Mannu Agwan, Gopi Nawanshehria, and Zeeshan Akhtar, under the direction of Pakistan-based BKI operative Harwinder Singh alias Rinda. The arrested individuals have been identified as Ritik Naroliya, a resident of Didawata village in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and Sonu Kumar alias Kali, a resident of Kala Sanghian village in Kapurthala, along with the three juveniles.
The DGP stated that the module had planned an attack inside a liquor store in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. It is worth mentioning that this module carried out a grenade attack at a liquor store in Nawanshahr on August 7, 2025. The operatives were further tasked with attempting such attacks during the period leading up to Independence Day.
Police teams have recovered one 86P hand grenade and one .30 bore pistol, along with two live cartridges and two empty shells.
According to the DGP, the accused were receiving direct instructions from Zeeshan Akhtar and BKI mastermind Mannu Agwan, who is working in close coordination with Pakistan-based BKI operative Harwinder Rinda.
During the operation, one of the arrested accused, Sonu Kumar alias Kali, was injured in an exchange of fire with the police. The police said Sonu was taken for identification of the location where he and his accomplices had kept recovered ammunition. The accused tried to flee from police custody, following which the police party opened fire, and he suffered a bullet injury in one of his legs. He is currently undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital, SBS Nagar.
A case has been registered at Nawanshahr police station in SBS Nagar under relevant sections of the BNS and Explosive Substances Act.
