Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a visit to the Adampur Air Force Station in Punjab on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, engaging with Air Force personnel and soldiers. This visit occurred days after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire following a period of heightened tensions and cross-border exchanges.
Modi's visit to the airbase, comes a day after his address to the nation regarding "Operation Sindoor". During his time at Adampur, the Prime Minister received a briefing from Air Force personnel on the current situation and interacted with the soldiers stationed there. He lauded the defense forces for their execution of Operation Sindoor, emphasizing that India's armed forces conducted precise strikes on terrorist hideouts and training centers within Pakistan.
In a post on X, PM Modi conveyed his experience at Adampur Air Force Station, praising the air warriors and soldiers for their courage, determination, and fearlessness. He affirmed the nation's gratitude to the armed forces for their service.
The Adampur Airbase is strategically important and was reportedly among the air force stations that Pakistan attempted to target during the recent escalation on the intervening night of May 9 and 10, following India's "Operation Sindoor".
The ceasefire between India and Pakistan was announced on May 10, 2025, following mediation efforts. The agreement came after a period of intense clashes, including missile and drone strikes across the borders, triggered by a tourist massacre last month that India attributed to Pakistan. While the ceasefire brought a halt to the immediate hostilities, both sides accused each other of violations shortly after the agreement was reached.
In his address, Modi stated that India has only suspended its retaliatory actions against Pakistan's terrorist and military targets for now, and reiterated that India would test every step of Pakistan to see what role it has adopted. He also issued a warning against any "nuclear blackmail".
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also held a briefing with military chiefs, including the CDS, Army Chief, Navy Chief, Vice Air Chief, and Defence Secretary, on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is scheduled to brief the Parliament's Standing Committee on External Affairs on May 19 regarding the situation with Pakistan.
The recent tensions and the subsequent ceasefire have drawn international attention, with various countries and organizations expressing their views and offering mediation. Turkiye welcomed the ceasefire and called on both parties to engage in direct dialogue.
The Prime Minister's visit to Adampur Air Force Station serves as a morale boost for the armed forces and a demonstration of the government's commitment to national security in the face of regional challenges.
