The family of BJP leader Dilip Ghosh is in mourning following the sudden death of his stepson, Srinjay Majumdar. The 26-year-old was found dead in a Kolkata flat on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. Srinjay was the son of Rinku Majumder from her previous marriage, whom Ghosh married on April 18, 2025.

Srinjay, who worked in an IT firm in Salt Lake, was discovered unconscious at his New Town residence. According to sources, the family cook found him, after which he was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

Initial reports indicate that Srinjay may have passed away due to acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis. A preliminary post-mortem report suggested this as the cause of death, although further investigations are underway. Rinku Majumder mentioned that her son had been suffering from a neurological problem and was on medication for the past year and a half.

Ghosh expressed his grief, saying, "It's my bad luck. I am so unfortunate. I never experienced the joy of having a son, but I am mourning the loss of one. Srinjay was close to me". He also mentioned their shared fondness for watching matches together.

Rinku Majumder shared that Srinjay had been supportive of her decision to marry Ghosh. "My mom has been fulfilling her social and family responsibilities for 13 years. This time, she is starting her own life. I am very happy for her," Srinjay had said on the day of his mother's wedding. She also noted that he seemed stressed after she moved out of their flat following the marriage. "He didn't say it out loud, but he wanted to stay with me. He wanted to build a house where we all would stay together," she said.

Srinjay's maternal uncle, Paritosh Shil, recounted their last conversation on Monday night, where Srinjay mentioned being exhausted from work but promised to meet him the next morning. Shil's repeated calls went unanswered on Tuesday, and he learned about his nephew's death from the cook.

The marriage between Dilip Ghosh and Rinku Majumder occurred in a private ceremony in Kolkata. Ghosh stated that his personal life would not impact his political work. The couple had met during morning walks and their relationship grew over time.

Police are currently recording statements from Srinjay's friends and investigating the incident. No formal complaint has been filed by Rinku Majumder or any other family member.
