Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani met with Donald Trump and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at a state dinner held at Lusail Palace in Doha. The dinner was hosted by Qatar in honor of the former US President.
Ambani was filmed warmly greeting Trump and conversing with him for a few moments before entering the palace. He also shook hands with the Qatari Emir. Following this, Ambani was seen chatting and laughing with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Steve Lutnick as he moved inside. This marks Ambani's second meeting with Donald Trump since Trump's return to presidency in January 2025. Ambani and his wife, Nita Ambani, had previously attended a pre-inauguration dinner in the United States.
The state dinner at Doha's Lusail Palace was described as an elaborate event, filled with the scent of incense and the sounds of drums and singing. According to reports, Elon Musk also attended the dinner, arriving approximately 30 minutes late. Other notable guests included Newsmax founder Chris Ruddy, Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman, and Antonio Gracias, a close friend of Elon Musk.
Sources indicate that Ambani's presence at the dinner was primarily to foster ties with authorities in both the United States and Qatar. Qatar's sovereign wealth fund, QIA, has invested in Reliance businesses over the years, and Ambani has several business partnerships with US tech giants like Google and Meta. While Ambani was expected to attend the state dinner, sources suggested that he did not plan to hold any investment or business discussions during the event. Another London-based Indian business leader with close ties to both the Trump and Qatari administrations was also reportedly in attendance.
Trump's visit to Qatar is part of a Middle East tour that includes stops in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Qatar was the second stop on the tour. During the state dinner, Trump reportedly urged Qatar to use its influence over Iran to persuade the country's leadership to reach an agreement with the U.S. to curb its nuclear program. Trump's visit to the United Arab Emirates on Thursday will focus on investment initiatives rather than regional security issues.
The meeting between Ambani, Trump, and the Qatari Emir underscores the Reliance Industries chairman's continued engagement with global leaders. It also highlights the existing business ties between Reliance and both the United States and Qatar.
