The father of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape victim has alleged that the assault on his wife during a recent protest was "pre-planned". The incident occurred during a march to Nabanna, the West Bengal state secretariat, on August 9, 2025, marking the first anniversary of his daughter's death.

According to the victim's father, the assault was carried out by police personnel. He has formally complained to Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma, asserting that the police deliberately targeted his wife in a manner that could have resulted in her death. He claims that three to four female police officers took his wife aside and struck her on the head and back with sticks. Following the alleged assault, the victim's mother was admitted to a private hospital. A CT scan revealed no internal injuries.

The father also accused the Kolkata Police (KP) of subjecting him to "extreme harassment" regarding the lodging of the First Information Report (FIR). He stated that despite the provision for a Zero FIR, which allows any police station to register a case and forward it to the appropriate jurisdiction, he was repeatedly redirected between different police stations. Frustrated, he ultimately emailed his complaint to Commissioner Verma.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Meeraj Khalid stated that a General Diary (GD) has been registered and an inquiry has commenced based on the father's complaint. Khalid also mentioned that an investigation is underway according to the rules of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and an FIR will follow if the allegations are found to be true. Khalid added that no police action around her is visible anywhere. He requested that anyone with evidence of police action on her share it.

The police have denied the allegations of assault. According to the police, every drone, CCTV, video, and photo collected from the location has been examined, but no evidence has been found to support the charges. They have made a public appeal for any video or photo that can corroborate the charges.

The incident has sparked outrage and protests. The father of the victim has stated that the family will pursue legal recourse and mentioned the matter in the High Court. He also alleged that his wife was not admitted immediately to the hospital despite her injuries. BJP leaders have met with the victim's mother, with BJP MP Sukanta Majumdar stating that there might be pressure from the state government.

The original incident that led to these events was the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, 2024. A civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, was convicted of the crime and sentenced to life imprisonment. However, the victim's family believes that more individuals were involved and that evidence was ignored. They have expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation conducted by both the Kolkata Police and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), alleging attempts to shield other culprits.
