A high court panel is set to convene and assess whether a medical student, who tragically lost her eyesight in an accident, can resume her MBBS course. The Rajasthan High Court has championed the student's cause, asserting that "vision need not only come from the eyes".

Ankita Singodia (23), of Jaipur's Murlipura, enrolled in MBBS in August 2014 and completed two years before the accident. In a recent ruling, a single-judge bench directed medical authorities to form an expert panel to evaluate the capabilities of Ankita Singodia, who suffered a complete loss of vision following a car crash in 2017 that inflicted severe head injuries. The panel is tasked with suggesting suitable methods and accommodations that would enable her to complete her remaining medical studies.

Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand observed that individuals with visual impairments can overcome challenges and succeed in their chosen fields through determined vision, hard work, and courage.

The case highlights the complexities and considerations involved when students with disabilities seek to continue their education, particularly in demanding fields like medicine. The court's intervention underscores a commitment to inclusivity and the recognition that alternative approaches can allow individuals with disabilities to meet the requirements of their chosen profession.

The expert panel's assessment will likely involve a thorough review of Ankita's academic record, her ability to perform essential medical tasks with accommodations, and the availability of resources and support systems to facilitate her success. They may consider technological aids, modified learning materials, and alternative assessment methods.

The outcome of this case could set a precedent for other students with disabilities seeking to pursue medical education. It also brings to light the evolving understanding of disability and the increasing emphasis on creating inclusive learning environments that enable all students to reach their full potential. The court's emphasis on "determined vision" serves as a powerful reminder that success is not solely determined by physical abilities but also by perseverance, adaptability, and the unwavering pursuit of one's goals.
