In a joint press statement following delegation-level talks with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Modi highlighted the shared values of democracy, rule of law, pluralism, and equality that bind India and Croatia. He noted the widespread popularity of yoga in Croatia, expressing appreciation for the local enthusiasm, and looked forward to International Yoga Day on June 21.
The Prime Minister also reiterated that terrorism is an enemy of humanity and a threat to democratic nations worldwide. He thanked Croatia for its steadfast support to India in fighting cross-border terrorism and expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Plenković and the Croatian government for their condolences following the terrorist attack in India on April 22.
Both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including digital technologies, space, renewable energy, defense, maritime infrastructure, tourism, and hospitality. They decided to expedite bilateral relations, aiming for a three-fold increase in cooperation during their respective terms.
A key focus of the discussions was strengthening defense cooperation. A long-term Defense Cooperation Plan will be developed, focusing on joint training, military exchanges, and collaboration in the defense industry. This plan aims to foster long-term cooperation in the defense sector between the two countries.
Furthermore, India and Croatia agreed to expand bilateral trade and build reliable supply chains. Cooperation will be promoted in important areas such as pharmaceuticals, agriculture, information technology, clean technology, digital technology, and renewable energy. Cooperation in shipbuilding and cybersecurity will also be strengthened.
Prime Minister Modi's visit marks the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited Croatia. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Croatian Prime Minister and government for the warm welcome he received in Zagreb.
