In the wake of recent escalations and ongoing efforts to combat cross-border terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have jointly appealed for peace and unity among the people. This call comes as India prepares to dispatch all-party delegations abroad to project the nation's united stance against terrorism following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has consistently maintained that the "enemy" is attempting to disrupt peace in Jammu and Kashmir by sending terrorists. Speaking in Rajouri, he asserted that security forces are making every effort to thwart these nefarious designs, while also emphasizing the need for public vigilance and support in identifying terror elements and sympathizers. He has also said that development will only take place when there is peace. Sinha has stressed the importance of unity to counter divisive forces and maintain societal resilience. He lauded the courage and dedication of the soldiers protecting the nation and expressed gratitude for their sacrifices.
Echoing these sentiments, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has reaffirmed the government's commitment to public safety and social harmony, vowing to resist all efforts to divide the people. He has also assured the continued supply of essential commodities and urged civil society and business leaders to report black-marketing. Abdullah has emphasized the need for the ceasefire between India and Pakistan to remain intact, stating that people living near the border want to live in peace. He has also highlighted the importance of ensuring a peaceful Amarnath Yatra, recognizing the hit that tourism has taken. Abdullah's government is focused on providing relief to those affected by the recent military actions. Following intense cross-border shelling from Pakistan, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited affected areas and acknowledged the renewed need for bunkers.
In a significant diplomatic outreach, the Indian government is sending seven all-party delegations to key partner countries, including members of the UN Security Council. This move aims to project India's national consensus and resolute approach to combating terrorism in all its forms. The delegations will carry forth India's strong message of zero-tolerance against terrorism and seek to strengthen international cooperation for long-term peace and security. The visits are expected to reinforce India's consistent demand for decisive global action against terrorism.
The delegations will be led by Members of Parliament from across political parties, senior political leaders, and experienced diplomats. The initiative reflects a rare show of political unity, with leaders from various ideological backgrounds joining hands on a critical national issue. The leaders of these delegations include Shashi Tharoor, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Sanjay Kumar Jha, Baijayant Panda, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Supriya Sule, and Shrikant Eknath Shinde.
These efforts follow Operation Sindoor, India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, and are intended to communicate India's stand on terrorism to the international community. The Ministry of External Affairs will provide detailed briefings to the delegations and has initiated visa procedures. The delegations will be provided with a comprehensive dossier including a brief on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor.
