A major terror plot targeting Delhi, orchestrated by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has been foiled following a three-month-long operation by Indian intelligence agencies. The operation culminated in the arrest of two suspects, including a key ISI operative, averting a potential terrorist attack in the nation's capital.
The arrested ISI agent, identified as Ansarul Miya Ansari, is believed to be a Pakistani asset tasked with gathering sensitive military information. According to sources, the intelligence agencies received a tip-off in January about the impending arrival of an ISI spy into India via Nepal. Ansari's mission was to collect classified documents, photographs, and geolocation data related to vital Indian military installations. This information was intended to aid in the planning of a terror attack in Delhi.
After weeks of surveillance, intelligence teams apprehended Ansari in central Delhi on February 15, just as he was preparing to exit the country through the same Nepal route. Crucially, he was found in possession of sensitive military-related documents. Following Ansari's arrest, authorities registered a case against him under the Official Secrets Act, indicating the severity of the espionage activities.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Ansari's accomplice, Akhlaque Azam, in Ranchi in March. Azam is accused of providing logistical support to Ansari, facilitating his activities within India. Examination of their mobile devices revealed incriminating exchanges with handlers based in Pakistan, suggesting a deeper conspiracy with far-reaching implications.
The intelligence agencies believe that ISI officers Muzammil and Ehsan-ur-Rahim, also known as Danish, played a significant role in orchestrating the operation. Both officers are reportedly linked to the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi and are suspected of attempting to recruit Indian YouTubers and influencers as part of a broader disinformation and espionage campaign.
According to a source familiar with the operation, the counter-intelligence team remained "one step ahead throughout." The source added that efforts were underway to gather information on Pakistan-backed terror groups active in India and the sleeper cells providing them with logistical support.
This successful operation underscores the ongoing threat of cross-border terrorism and espionage, highlighting the critical role of intelligence agencies in safeguarding national security. The arrest of the ISI agent and his accomplice has not only prevented a potential terror attack in Delhi but has also exposed a larger network of espionage and disinformation activities orchestrated by Pakistan's ISI.
