Neeraj Ghaywan's "Homebound" has garnered significant attention at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, marking a proud moment for Indian cinema on the global stage. The film, which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section, received a nine-minute standing ovation, underscoring its impact on the international audience. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as "Homebound" was the only Indian feature film selected for the 2025 edition of the festival.

The premiere was an emotional affair, with the cast and crew visibly moved by the audience's response. The film stars Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, and Vishal Jethwa in pivotal roles, and their camaraderie was evident as they shared hugs and celebrated the film's success. Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa were seen embracing, while director Neeraj Ghaywan joined them, calling Janhvi Kapoor into a heartfelt group hug. Producer Karan Johar, also present at the screening, was seen wiping away tears, deeply touched by the film's reception. Janhvi's sister, Khushi Kapoor, and her boyfriend, Shikhar Pahariya, were also in attendance, enthusiastically applauding the film.

"Homebound" tells the story of two childhood friends from a small North Indian village who aspire to become police officers, seeking dignity and respect. However, their bond is tested as they get closer to their goal and face mounting pressure. Ghaywan describes the film as a deeply personal story about friendship, dignity, and survival, highlighting the quiet strength of those often unseen.

The film is co-written by Neeraj Ghaywan and Sumit Roy and produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, with co-producers Marijke de Souza and Melita Toscan Du Plantier. Adding an international dimension to the project, Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese serves as executive producer.

Speaking after the screening, Ishaan Khatter expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work with Ghaywan, stating that "Homebound" is a heartfelt project he hopes will resonate with audiences. Vishal Jethwa also shared his pride in representing India and called the film a significant step forward for everyone involved.

Neeraj Ghaywan's return to Cannes with "Homebound" comes ten years after his debut film, "Masaan," also premiered in the Un Certain Regard section and won significant acclaim. The nine-minute ovation for "Homebound" not only celebrates the film's artistic merit but also highlights the growing recognition of Indian cinema on the global stage. The film's emotional narrative, combined with its talented cast and crew, has clearly struck a chord with audiences, promising a bright future for "Homebound" as it continues its journey beyond Cannes.
