Following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians, India launched "Operation Sindoor" to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation targeted nine terrorist camps linked to groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen.
The Indian Army has released videos showcasing the precision strikes carried out during "Operation Sindoor." The footage reveals the destruction of key infrastructure linked to terror groups, including launchpads and training camps. Among the targets were the LeT headquarters in Muridke and the JeM headquarters in Bahawalpur. These locations were known for training terrorists involved in attacks against India, including the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
According to officials, the Gulpur camp in Kotli, a LeT base approximately 30 kilometers from the Line of Control (LoC), was also destroyed. This camp was reportedly used to train terrorists involved in the Poonch attack in April 2023 and the pilgrim bus attack in June 2024.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that "Operation Sindoor" exposed Pakistan's sponsorship of terrorism in India. He highlighted that the operation demonstrated the government's firm political will, precise intelligence inputs, and the armed forces' lethal capabilities. Shah emphasized that India only targeted terror bases, avoiding military or civilian installations in Pakistan.
In response to "Operation Sindoor," Pakistan launched missile and drone attacks targeting Indian military installations in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. However, Indian aerial defense systems successfully thwarted these attacks. India retaliated by striking airfields in Pakistan.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh affirmed that the targets under "Operation Sindoor" were destroyed with precision, and the action was taken thoughtfully and in a measured manner. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasized that the operation was non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible, aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure and disabling terrorists planning to cross into India.
The international community was briefed on "Operation Sindoor," with the Ministry of External Affairs providing detailed briefings to members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), including the Chinese Ambassador to India.
"Operation Sindoor" has brought renewed focus on the issue of cross-border terrorism and the need for sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist infrastructure.
