A tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district has claimed the lives of 11 people and left 4 others critically injured. The incident occurred on Sunday, August 3, 2025, under the Itia Thok Police Station limits, when a vehicle carrying 15 passengers veered off the road and plunged into the Saryu canal.
According to reports, the victims were traveling from Sihagaon village to the Prithvinath Temple in Khargupur to offer prayers. The vehicle, believed to be a Bolero, lost control, leading to the fatal incident.
Upon receiving the information, local police and rescue teams rushed to the scene. With the help of villagers, they recovered 11 bodies from the submerged vehicle. The four injured passengers were rescued in critical condition and immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The bodies have been sent for postmortem, and authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep sorrow and condolences to the families of the deceased. He has directed officials to ensure that the injured receive proper medical treatment. Furthermore, he has announced a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.
CM Yogi said that the loss of life was extremely tragic and heart-wrenching. He has also instructed district administration officials to immediately take the injured to the hospital for proper treatment and prayed for the departed souls to attain salvation and for the bereaved families to find strength.
This is not the first time Gonda has witnessed such a tragedy. Earlier this year, in June 2025, five people were killed in two separate road accidents that took place within 24 hours. In one incident, three people died on the spot after a head-on collision between two motorcycles, while another person was critically injured. In the second incident, two men died after an unidentified speeding vehicle hit their motorcycle.
