Kanimozhi leads delegation to Madrid, showcasing India's counter-terrorism efforts on the global stage.

An all-party Indian parliamentary delegation, spearheaded by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, has arrived in Madrid, Spain, as part of "Operation Sindoor," a global campaign designed to highlight India's firm stance against terrorism and extremism. The delegation's visit aims to engage with Spanish government officials, members of the Indian diaspora, and civil society representatives to reinforce India's zero-tolerance approach, particularly concerning cross-border terrorism.

The Indian Embassy in Spain conveyed the delegation's arrival via a post on X, noting that over the next two days, meetings would be held with various stakeholders to present India's position on zero tolerance for terrorism. The delegation comprises MPs from across the Indian political spectrum, including Rajeev Rai of the Samajwadi Party, Captain Brijesh Chowta (Retd.) of the BJP, Prem Chand Gupta of the RJD, Ashok Kumar Mittal of the AAP, and former Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the UN, Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri.

Prior to their arrival in Spain, the delegation visited Latvia, where they engaged with key members of the Latvian Parliament. Discussions centered on India's security concerns and determination to respond firmly to any act of terrorism, especially those originating from Pakistan. Ashok Mittal shared details of the Latvia visit on X, emphasizing that India conveyed its unified and unwavering stance of zero tolerance towards terrorism. The delegation also met with Latvian State Secretary Andzejs Vilumson and Ambassador Andrejs Pildegovics, Special Envoy for Latvia's United Nations Security Council (UNSC) candidacy.

The delegation's visit to Spain marks the concluding leg of its multi-nation diplomatic outreach. This outreach follows a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in 26 casualties. The delegation intends to convey India's resolute stance against terrorism and advocate for stronger international cooperation in addressing this global challenge. According to a statement by the Indian mission, the delegation, led by a senior Member of Parliament from the opposition party, reflects the strong national consensus and unity across political lines in India's fight against terrorism.

This delegation is one of seven multi-party delegations India has tasked with visiting 33 global capitals. The aim is to reach out to the international community to emphasize Pakistan's links to terrorism. Tensions between India and Pakistan have recently escalated, particularly after the Pahalgam terror attack. India has carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the attack.
