Veteran actress Usha Nadkarni, known for her iconic role as Savita Deshmukh in the popular television show "Pavitra Rishta," recently shared a vulnerable side of herself, expressing her fears and anxieties about living alone in Mumbai at the age of 79. The actress got emotional while speaking with Ankita Lokhande, her co-star from "Pavitra Rishta," who visited her at her home.
Ankita Lokhande recently celebrated 16 years in the industry by inviting Usha Nadkarni to her Mumbai home. On Sunday, Ankita shared a video on her YouTube channel where Usha was seen getting emotional. The two actresses reminisced about their shooting days and fondly remembered Sushant Singh Rajput and other cast members.
In a heartfelt conversation, Usha Nadkarni revealed the challenges and loneliness she faces. "Ghar mein akeli hoon na, darr lagta hai mein girungi, kisko malum nahi padega," she confessed, meaning, "I am alone at home, I am scared that if I fall, no one will know." Her vulnerability touched many hearts, highlighting the struggles of elderly individuals living alone, particularly in bustling cities like Mumbai.
Nadkarni also spoke about the recent loss of her brother, who passed away on June 30, 2024. Overcome with emotion, she shared, "My brother passed away last year on June 30. If he had understood that I was going through something, he would have come running to me. Now, whom should I tell?" The absence of her brother, who was a pillar of support, has amplified her sense of isolation and fear.
Ankita Lokhande, who has always shared a close bond with Usha Nadkarni, offered words of comfort and support. "Aai (Usha) bohot zyada strong hai, woh akeli rehti hai. Woh itne saalon se akeli rahi hai, mein bohot saalon se aai ko dekh rahi hoon," Lokhande said, acknowledging Nadkarni's strength and independence over the years. She assured Usha Tai that she is always there for her and that she can call her whenever she needs any help.
Usha Nadkarni's career has spanned several decades, with notable roles in Hindi and Marathi films and television shows. Before "Pavitra Rishta", Usha did two serials for Balaji--Kuchh Is Tara and Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasmaan. She also participated in the first season of the reality show "Bigg Boss Marathi" in 2018. Despite her successful career, the veteran actress has had to make sacrifices, including prioritizing work over family. In an earlier interview, she shared how she missed out on meals due to her hectic work schedule, even though she is diabetic.
The veteran actress’s revelation about her fears of living alone sheds light on the importance of community and support systems for the elderly. It also underscores the need for greater awareness and sensitivity towards the challenges faced by senior citizens who live independently.
