Burnley Football Club has officially announced the signing of Armando Broja from Chelsea on a permanent deal. The 23-year-old Albanian international striker has signed a five-year contract with the Clarets, keeping him at the club until 2030. The transfer fee remains undisclosed.
Broja's move to Burnley marks the end of his long association with Chelsea, where he joined the academy as an Under-9 player in 2009. He progressed through the youth ranks at Cobham, eventually making his first-team debut in March 2020 in a match against Everton. Despite showing promise, Broja found it difficult to establish himself as a regular starter at Stamford Bridge, partly due to a series of injuries, including an ACL tear.
To gain experience, Broja had several loan spells away from Chelsea. He played for Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands, where he scored 11 goals in 34 appearances. He also had stints at Southampton, Fulham and Everton. His most successful loan spell was at Southampton during the 2021/22 season, where he scored nine goals in 38 appearances. He became the first Albanian player to score in the English top-flight whilst at Southampton. Most recently, Broja spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Everton, making 10 appearances.
Burnley's acquisition of Broja represents a significant investment as they aim to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season. Broja becomes Head Coach Scott Parker's ninth signing of the summer. The club has already signed Bashir Humphreys and Lesley Ugochukwu from Chelsea this off-season. The Clarets are investing heavily in the summer transfer window as they bid to survive in the top flight.
Broja has expressed his excitement about joining Burnley. "I am really excited to be here as a Burnley player," he said. "It's a really positive time to be joining this club ahead of the start of the new Premier League season. I can't wait to get going! I'm feeling good, I'm ready and I'm excited about the challenge of playing for this club. I can already feel the support from the Burnley fans – I can tell you all that I will be giving my all every time I pull on the famous Claret shirt".
Internationally, Broja represents Albania, the country of his parents. He has played for Albania at various youth levels and has already made 27 appearances for the senior national team.
Broja is expected to link up with the Burnley squad ahead of their friendly match against Lazio at Turf Moor this weekend.
