In a disturbing incident echoing the plot of the Bollywood thriller "Drishyam," a man in Rajasthan has been arrested for allegedly murdering an elderly woman, burning her body, and disposing of the remains in a lake. The accused, Ramesh Lohar, confessed to the crime, stating that he was inspired by the movie and true crime shows like "Crime Patrol" to commit the murder and evade detection.

The case began with a missing person report filed on February 23 concerning Chandi Bai, an elderly woman from Fatehnagar. According to authorities, Ramesh Lohar, who worked as an artificial jewelry seller, had noticed Chandi Bai wearing valuable silver and gold jewelry at an event on January 9. Driven by the desire to steal her jewelry, Ramesh allegedly hatched a plan to kill her.

On February 22, Ramesh lured Chandi Bai into his van under the pretense of offering her ₹1,100 to perform at a function. He then drove her to an isolated location, switched off his mobile phone to mislead authorities, and brutally attacked her, hitting her multiple times on the head with a screwdriver, resulting in her death. After the murder, Ramesh stole her jewelry, disposed of her mobile phone and bag in a nearby jungle, and transported her body to a dumping yard.

In an attempt to erase any trace of the crime, Ramesh covered the body with debris and set it on fire. The next morning, he returned to the dumping yard to collect the remaining bone fragments and dumped them in a lake, believing that without a body, he would not be caught, just like in the movie "Drishyam".

However, Ramesh's plan was not as foolproof as he had hoped. Police discovered small pieces of the woman’s skull in the dumping yard. Forensic analysis revealed bloodstains and human hair in Ramesh’s van, which were later matched to hair samples taken from Chandi Bai’s bed.

As the investigation progressed, authorities grew suspicious of Ramesh. Chandi Bai’s call records placed both her and Ramesh at the same location on the day of her disappearance. Further investigation revealed that Ramesh had a prior criminal record, including a rape case. Digital forensics also revealed that Ramesh had been searching for "Drishyam" and crime shows on Google, further solidifying the suspicion that he had meticulously planned the crime based on the movie's plot.

Initially, Ramesh denied any involvement in Chandi Bai’s disappearance. He even attempted to mislead the police by directing them to animal bones, hoping to derail the investigation. However, confronted with the mounting evidence, Ramesh eventually confessed to the crime. Police recovered the stolen jewelry and the vehicle used in the murder. DNA analysis confirmed that the remains found were those of Chandi Bai.

This incident serves as a chilling example of how crime can be inspired by media. The police investigation is ongoing.
