A honeymoon trip to Meghalaya has turned into a shocking tragedy with the arrest of a woman accused of orchestrating her husband's murder. Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife of Raja Raghuvanshi from Indore, has been apprehended by Meghalaya Police for allegedly hiring contract killers to carry out the crime during what was supposed to be a romantic getaway.

The couple had gone missing on May 23, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. Raja's body was discovered on June 2 in a gorge near Cherrapunji, casting a dark shadow over the case. Initially reported as a missing persons case, the investigation took a dramatic turn as evidence pointed towards a premeditated murder.

Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) I. Nongrang revealed that Sonam had allegedly hired three contract killers to eliminate her husband. Following intensive investigations, Sonam surrendered to the police in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur, while three other suspects were arrested in overnight raids conducted across Madhya Pradesh. A fifth suspect remains at large, and authorities are continuing their search.

The breakthrough in the case came within a week, prompting Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to commend the police force. He announced the arrests on social media, stating that three assailants from Madhya Pradesh had been apprehended, and the wife had surrendered.

Adding to the intrigue, security footage from the couple's homestay in Sohra showed them dressed in black jackets, wheeling a white suitcase, further deepening the mystery surrounding the case. The footage has since been widely circulated online.

Earlier, Raja's family had expressed their distrust in the local police investigation and had appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a CBI probe. His brother, Vipul Raghuvanshi, stated that they had submitted a letter to the PM and the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, seeking justice for Raja.

A local guide, Albert Pde, provided crucial eyewitness information, stating that he had seen the couple with three unidentified men on May 23 in the Sohra-Mawlakhiat area. The guide, who only understands Khasi and English, overheard the men speaking in Hindi but couldn't understand their conversation. He also confirmed that the couple had declined his guiding services the previous day.

The motive behind the alleged murder remains under investigation. Police are working to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy and determine the reasons that led to this tragic event. The arrest of Sonam Raghuvanshi and the apprehension of the alleged contract killers mark a significant step forward in the investigation, but the search for the fifth suspect continues.
