The mystery surrounding the death of an Indore man during his honeymoon in Meghalaya has been solved with a chilling revelation: his wife allegedly orchestrated his murder. Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife of the deceased Raja Raghuvanshi, has surrendered to police in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, after being found in an unconscious state at a 'dhaba'.
According to Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) I Nongrang, Sonam is accused of hiring contract killers to eliminate her husband, Raja. The couple had recently traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. Police investigations revealed a murder conspiracy allegedly planned by Sonam. Three alleged assailants have been arrested in Madhya Pradesh. A fifth suspect is still absconding, and a search is underway.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma confirmed the development in a post on social media platform X, stating that a major breakthrough had been achieved in the Raja murder case within seven days. He noted that three assailants from Madhya Pradesh had been arrested, and the wife had surrendered, while the operation to catch one more assailant was ongoing.
Police said the arrests were based on technical evidence and coordinated efforts across state lines. The arrested men have reportedly confessed that Sonam hired them to kill Raja. The investigation is still underway to determine the full motive and whether more individuals were involved in the crime.
Last week, a tourist guide reported seeing the couple with three other men on the day they went missing in the Sohra area of Meghalaya. The guide stated that the four men were walking ahead, while Sonam followed behind. The family of Raja Raghuvanshi, whose body was discovered in a gorge near Cherrapunji, had appealed for a CBI investigation into the case.
The arrest of Sonam and her alleged accomplices marks a significant development in the case, bringing a sense of closure to the family and authorities involved.
