A tragic incident has unfolded in Ludhiana, where a 21-year-old newlywed woman, Radhika, was found murdered in her rented home in Mohalla Fatehganj on Tuesday evening. The prime suspect is her husband, Sunil, who is currently on the run. Police suspect that Sunil killed Radhika after discovering that she had been previously married, a fact she had kept hidden from him.
According to police reports, Radhika and Sunil had been married for only four months, having solemnized their marriage in a temple. They had recently moved to the Fatehganj area from Tibba Road just four days before the gruesome discovery. The crime is believed to have occurred on Sunday, with Radhika's body found decomposing under a pile of clothes.
The incident came to light when neighbors noticed a foul smell emanating from the locked flat. They alerted the landlady, Gurwinder Kaur, and Radhika's brother, Krishna, who lives nearby. Upon entering the premises, they discovered Radhika's body and immediately informed the police.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Central) Anil Bhanot confirmed that a murder case has been registered against Sunil. The initial investigation indicates that Radhika was strangled to death, and her arms were tied with cloth. Police have formed multiple teams to locate and apprehend Sunil, who was reportedly seen leaving the area around 4 am on Monday with a bag. CCTV footage has corroborated this information.
Radhika's sister, Asha, revealed that the couple had married in a temple four months prior, despite initial opposition from Sunil's family, who later accepted their relationship. The couple was also planning to officially register their marriage. However, investigations led by Division number 3 SHO Aditya Sharma uncovered that Radhika had been married before moving in with Sunil, a fact she had concealed from him. It is believed that Sunil discovered a clue about her past two days before the murder, leading to a heated argument between the couple. Police suspect that this discovery and the ensuing argument were the primary triggers for the murder.
Authorities are also investigating whether Radhika and Sunil were legally married or simply in a live-in relationship, as the victim's family has no legal proof of the marriage. The police are exploring all angles to ascertain the exact nature of their relationship and the circumstances leading to Radhika's death. The investigation is ongoing as the police work to locate Sunil and gather more evidence to clarify the events surrounding this tragic case.
