The Indian Junior Women's Hockey team has continued its impressive run on their European tour, securing a 2-1 victory against Belgium on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Hockey Center of Excellence, Wilrijkse Plein in Antwerp. This win marks their second consecutive triumph against the same opponent, demonstrating their growing prowess and adaptability on the international stage.

The match began with a tightly contested first half, as both teams struggled to find a breakthrough. The deadlock persisted until the 35th minute when Lalthantluangi converted a penalty stroke, providing India with the much-needed lead. Belgium, however, responded strongly in the final quarter, with Van Hellemont scoring a field goal in the 48th minute to level the score.

The Indian team showcased remarkable resilience and determination, as Geeta Yadav scored a field goal just two minutes later, restoring India's lead. The final 10 minutes saw intense pressure from Belgium, but the Indian defense stood firm, denying any further equalizers and securing the 2-1 victory.

This European tour is a crucial part of the Indian team's preparation for the upcoming FIH Hockey Women's Junior World Cup 2025, scheduled to be held in Santiago, Chile, in December 2025. The tour provides an invaluable opportunity for the team to fine-tune their skills, build match temperament, and gain experience playing against diverse international opponents. Prior to this, the team had a promising outing at the Four Nations Tournament in Rosario, Argentina, further enhancing their readiness for the challenges ahead. In Argentina, the team registered a 2-1 win and a 2-2 (2-3 SO) loss against Chile, earned a 1-1 (2-0 SO) win and a 2-4 loss against hosts Argentina, and defeated Uruguay twice, with scores of 3-2 and 2-2 (3-1 SO).

Before this 2-1 victory, the Indian junior women's hockey team had already tasted success against Belgium in the opening match of their European tour, with a 3-2 win. Geeta Yadav, Lalthantluangi and Sonam were the scorers in the first match for India.

Following these two consecutive wins, the Indian Junior Women's Hockey Team is set to face Belgium for the third and final time on June 12, concluding their series of matches in Antwerp. Subsequently, they will move on to face Australia at Beerschot Tennis Hockey Padel Club in Kontich, and finally wrap up their European tour with a match against the Netherlands at Hockey Club Kampong in Utrecht.
