The Punjab Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of social media influencer Kamal Kaur's body in a parked car near Adesh Medical University in Bathinda on Wednesday night.
Kaur, known online as "Kamal Kaur Bhabhi," was a resident of Ludhiana and had a significant presence on Instagram with over 383,000 followers. She was known for posting reels, some of which sparked controversy.
According to police sources, it is suspected that Kaur was killed elsewhere, and her body was transported in a car registered in Ludhiana district before being left in the parking area of the medical university. A foul smell emanating from the vehicle alerted people nearby, who then informed the police.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Bathinda) Amneet Kondal stated that a forensic team has been called in to assist with the investigation. "Prima facie, there seems something fishy, and an FIR under murder charges is being registered," she said.
Superintendent of Police (City) Narinder Singh confirmed that the deceased was 30 years old and a resident of Lachman Colony in Ludhiana. He added that the victim's family has been informed. Preliminary information suggests she left Ludhiana on June 9 for a promotional event in Bathinda and subsequently lost contact with her family. Further legal action will be taken based on their statements.
Investigators suspect that Kaur was murdered and her body was later dumped in the back seat of the car. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, it is currently not possible to determine the presence of any injury marks. The body has been sent to Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
Police sources also indicated that Kaur had been criticized a few months ago by a gangster based overseas for allegedly using objectionable language in her content.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding Kaur's death and identify the culprits. The case has sent shockwaves through the Punjabi social media community.
