The Santiago Bernabéu was buzzing with anticipation as Trent Alexander-Arnold was officially unveiled as a Real Madrid player on Thursday, June 12, 2025. The 26-year-old England international, who recently concluded a decorated spell with Liverpool, expressed his elation at joining the Spanish giants, calling it "a dream come true." The transfer marks a significant chapter in Alexander-Arnold's career, as he embarks on a new journey with one of the most prestigious clubs in the world.

Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid had been brewing for some time, with rumors swirling throughout the past few months. The transfer was finalized swiftly to allow the defender to participate in the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States. Real Madrid reportedly paid Liverpool a fee of €10 million to secure his services ahead of schedule, as his contract was set to expire at the end of June.

During the presentation, Alexander-Arnold spoke briefly in Spanish, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity and his eagerness to contribute to the team's success. "Thank you for this opportunity," he stated. "To sign with a club like Real Madrid doesn't happen very often. It's a dream come true. I'm very happy and proud to be here. I'm very excited to show my game to Madrid fans, but I'm aware that it's a great responsibility to play for Real Madrid. I'm ready to give my all for this team and for the fans.”

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, who was present at the signing ceremony, welcomed Alexander-Arnold and acknowledged his impressive achievements with Liverpool. "We welcome a player who has won everything and who marked an era in a prestigious club such as Liverpool," Pérez said. "You could have continued playing in any other club, but you chose to continue your career with our club, and we will never forget that."

Alexander-Arnold will wear the number 12 jersey for Real Madrid, a change from his familiar number 66 at Liverpool. La Liga regulations stipulate that first-team players must wear numbers between 1 and 25, thus preventing him from retaining his previous squad number. He will also have "Trent" on the back of his jersey, instead of his full last name. His contract with Real Madrid runs through June 2031 and includes a hefty release clause of €250 million, demonstrating the club's high regard for the player.

The England international brings a wealth of experience and talent to Real Madrid's squad. During his time with Liverpool, he made 354 appearances, scoring 23 goals, and played a pivotal role in the club's triumphs, including the Champions League title in 2019 and two Premier League titles. He has also represented England in two World Cups and one European Championship. Known for his exceptional crossing ability, vision, and versatility, Alexander-Arnold is expected to bolster Real Madrid's defense and contribute to their attacking play.

With the Club World Cup fast approaching, Alexander-Arnold is set to make his debut for Real Madrid against Al-Hilal on June 18 in Miami. He expressed his eagerness to get started and contribute to the team's ambition to win the trophy. The addition of Alexander-Arnold, along with other new signings like Dean Huijsen, signals Real Madrid's intent to strengthen their squad under the guidance of new manager Xabi Alonso and compete for major honors in the upcoming season.

Alexander-Arnold's arrival has generated excitement among Real Madrid fans, who eagerly anticipate seeing him in action. His blend of skill, experience, and dedication is expected to make him a valuable asset to the team as they embark on a new era under Alonso's leadership.
