Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi on Sunday evening, June 15, 2025, due to a stomach-related issue. According to reports, she is currently under observation in the hospital's gastroenterology department.
This is the second time this year that Sonia Gandhi, who turned 78 in December 2024, has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for similar concerns. Earlier this month, she underwent an MRI scan at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Hospital in Shimla after experiencing restlessness. Sources indicated that she was taken to the hospital from her private residence in Chharabra, Shimla, late in the afternoon on that occasion. A doctor at IGMC noted that her blood pressure was "marginally higher than normal" but affirmed that she was "normal and stable." At the time, Naresh Chauhan, the principal advisor (media) to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, reported that it was a routine check-up for some minor health issues.
News of Sonia Gandhi's hospitalization has prompted concern among party members and supporters, who are hoping for her speedy recovery. While no official medical bulletin has been released by the hospital yet, sources suggest that a team of doctors is closely monitoring her condition.
Sonia Gandhi's public appearances have become less frequent in recent years, but she remains an influential figure in the Indian National Congress. During the Budget session of the Rajya Sabha in February 2025, she raised concerns about the delay in the census process, which has been postponed for four years. She also emphasized the importance of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), launched by the UPA government in 2013, in ensuring food security for India's population.
The Sir Ganga Ram Hospital has confirmed that Sonia Gandhi is currently under observation in the gastroenterology department and is receiving treatment for her stomach-related problem. Further updates on her health are expected as doctors continue to monitor her condition.
