Mohun Bagan Super Giant have received a significant boost ahead of the upcoming season with FIFA lifting the transfer ban that had been imposed on the club. The FIFA Disciplinary Committee's decision, made public on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, clears the way for the club to actively participate in the transfer market and sign new players.

The ban was initially imposed on May 5, 2025, following a technical issue related to the transfer of Australian striker Jason Cummings from Central Coast Mariners in 2023. The issue centered around a delay or incomplete settlement of training compensation owed to Cummings' former development clubs. Despite Mohun Bagan's claims that the agreed transfer fee had been paid in full, a mismatch in FIFA's Clearing House system led to the initial ban. Club officials clarified that the issue was administrative and not related to any financial irregularities.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant acted swiftly to address the matter, submitting a comprehensive 107-page document to FIFA, followed by responses to two subsequent queries from the governing body. This proactive approach proved successful, as FIFA lifted the ban within a month, a significantly shorter period compared to Mumbai City FC, who faced a similar ban that took nearly three months to resolve.

With the transfer window already open since June 9, 2025, Mohun Bagan can now fully focus on strengthening their squad for the new season. This positive development coincides with the recent appointment of Debasish Dutta as the new president and Srinjoy Bose as the general secretary of the club, marking a fresh start for the Mariners both on and off the field.

Several other Indian clubs, including East Bengal, Kerala Blasters and Chennai City FC, have faced FIFA transfer bans in the past, typically due to a failure to pay player dues or honour contractual obligations. These bans prevent clubs from registering new players, severely hindering their ability to compete effectively.

The lifting of the ban is a welcome relief for Mohun Bagan Super Giant and its fans. The club can now actively participate in the transfer market, bolstering their squad and preparing for a successful campaign in the upcoming season. It also reflects the club's commitment to resolving issues promptly and maintaining compliance with FIFA regulations.
