Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) project in the National Capital Region (NCR) on August 17, 2025. The two major National Highway projects have a combined cost of approximately ₹11,000 crore. The inauguration ceremony will take place in Rohini, Delhi, around 12:30 PM, followed by an address to the public by the Prime Minister.
These projects are part of a comprehensive plan by the government to decongest Delhi, improve multi-modal connectivity, reduce travel time, and ease traffic in and around the capital. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has stated that these initiatives align with PM Modi's vision of creating world-class infrastructure to enhance the ease of living and ensure seamless mobility for citizens.
The Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway is 10.1 km long and has been developed at a cost of around ₹5,360 crore. This section will provide multi-modal connectivity to the Yashobhoomi convention center, the Delhi Metro's Blue and Orange lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka cluster bus depot. The project is divided into two packages: a 5.9 km stretch from the Shiv Murti intersection to the Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Dwarka Sector-21, and a 4.2 km stretch from the Dwarka Sector-21 RUB to the Delhi-Haryana border, which will offer direct connectivity to Urban Extension Road-II. The Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway, spanning 19 km, was previously inaugurated by PM Modi in March 2024.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), along with new links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat. This section has been built at an approximate cost of ₹5,580 crore. The UER-II is expected to ease traffic on Delhi's Inner and Outer Ring Roads and at major congestion points like Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09. Furthermore, the new links are aimed at improving industrial connectivity, reducing city traffic, and accelerating the movement of goods in the NCR.
The new stretches are expected to significantly cut travel time, with some reports suggesting that travel time from Noida to the Delhi IGI Airport could be reduced to just 20 minutes. Delhi Traffic Police have issued advisories regarding potential traffic restrictions in parts of West Delhi and Rohini between 6 AM and 2 PM on August 17 due to the inauguration event. Vehicular movement may be restricted on UER-II, Rohtak Road from Peeragarhi to Tikri Border, and connecting roads, including Bhagwan Mahavir Road, Bawana Road, Kanjhawala Road, Kanjhawala Link Road, and Badsha Dahiya Marg.
