BTS's Jimin recently shared a humorous take on his weight gain during his military service, attributing it to the high-carbohydrate content of the meals provided. In a Weverse livestream with fellow member Jungkook, held shortly after their discharge on June 11, 2025, Jimin addressed fans and playfully discussed the changes in his physique.
Jimin, who enlisted in December 2023, revealed that he gained 10 kilograms (approximately 22 pounds) while serving. He humorously blamed the "mess tray," a term referring to the standard military-provided meals, for his weight gain. According to Jimin, the issue wasn't just the main courses but also the side dishes, which were also packed with carbohydrates. He quipped that "everything is carbs: rice, soup, even the side dishes.” Jungkook chimed in, agreeing that military food is calorie-packed and tastes delicious.
Before enlisting, Jimin had been dieting for an extended period. However, the structured eating habits and the nature of military meals led to a significant change in his weight. Earlier in the year, during a live broadcast with J-Hope for the latter's birthday in February, Jimin had mentioned gaining around 8 to 9 kg, bringing his weight to approximately 67.8 kg. At that time, J-Hope pointed out that the weight gain seemed to be muscle mass resulting from intensive military training.
The topic of Jimin's weight has resonated with fans, who have reacted with humor and support. Many have taken to social media to express their amusement and to reassure Jimin that he looks healthy and handsome regardless of the weight gain. Comments such as "Blame the mess tray," "Still so handsome," and "Can't wait for BTS's new chapter" flooded the comments sections, showcasing the strong bond between BTS and their dedicated fanbase, ARMY.
Jimin and Jungkook's discharge marks a significant step towards a full BTS reunion, with only SUGA remaining to complete his service, expected on June 21, 2025. The recent 2025 FESTA celebration on June 13-14, which gathered over 60,000 ARMYs in Ilsan, featured heartfelt voice messages from the members and a "BTS Locker" exhibit displaying personal memorabilia.
The members of BTS have been fulfilling their mandatory military service at different times. Jin was discharged in June 2024, and J-Hope in October 2024. RM and V were discharged just a day before Jimin and Jungkook. With most members now back, anticipation is building for the group's return to music and performances, expected sometime in 2025.
