In a heartwarming story of dedication and shared aspirations, a 41-year-old former army man and his 21-year-old son have both successfully joined the Uttar Pradesh Police force. Yashpal Nagar, the ex-serviceman, and his son, Shekhar Nagar, hailing from a village in the Hapur district, received their appointment letters together at a ceremony in Lucknow. This inspiring achievement has not only brought immense joy to their family but has also resonated throughout their village, Udaypur Udayrampur Nangla in Dhaulana, where locals are celebrating their accomplishment as a moment of great pride for the entire community.
Yashpal Nagar's journey is one of commitment and service. He joined the Indian Army in 2003 and dedicated 16 years of his life to the nation before taking voluntary retirement in 2019. Even after retirement, his dedication to service continued as he worked with the Army Ordnance Corps in Delhi. Inspired by a desire to continue serving the public and motivated by his son's aspirations, Yashpal decided to embark on a new journey alongside Shekhar.
Shekhar, having just finished school, was preparing to pursue a career in law enforcement. Together, the father-son duo made a plan: they would prepare for the UP Police recruitment exam together. This decision transformed their relationship, turning them into study buddies and partners in achieving a common goal.
For two and a half years, Yashpal and Shekhar dedicated themselves to rigorous preparation. They enrolled in the same coaching center in Delhi-NCR, studying the same syllabus and tackling the same practice tests. They even appeared for other competitive exams like the Combined Defence Services (CDS) and UP Sub-Inspector recruitment examinations, broadening their knowledge and strengthening their resolve. They would study together in the village library regularly. "Both of us worked hard together. The combined effect of Papa's discipline and my technical notes was that both of us were able to pass the exam," Shekhar told ThePrint.
Their dedication was tested when the UP Police Civil Police Direct Recruitment Exam faced cancellations and delays. However, their determination remained unwavering. They supported each other through the challenges, maintaining a consistent routine of physical training in the mornings and intensive study sessions.
Their strengths complemented each other perfectly. Yashpal's years of military service instilled in him a strong sense of discipline and a wealth of general knowledge. Shekhar, on the other hand, possessed a knack for logic and numerical reasoning. Together, they formed a formidable team, tackling every obstacle with perseverance and mutual support.
Finally, their hard work paid off. When the results were announced, both Yashpal and Shekhar had cleared the exam. Their dream of serving the public together as members of the UP Police had become a reality. At the appointment ceremony in Lucknow, they received their appointment letters from Union Home Minister Amit Shah and CM Yogi Adityanath, marking the culmination of their inspiring journey.
Yashpal has been posted in Shahjahanpur, while Shekhar will begin his training in Bareilly. Hapur Superintendent of Police Kunwar Gyananjay Singh lauded the father-son duo, describing their journey as "inspirational" and a "symbol of dedication and determination." He encouraged other aspirants to draw inspiration from their success.
The story of Yashpal and Shekhar Nagar is a testament to the power of dedication, perseverance, and the unbreakable bond between a father and son. Their achievement serves as an inspiration to aspiring police officers and a reminder that with hard work and determination, any goal can be achieved. Their success also highlights the importance of family support and the strength that can be found in shared aspirations.
