A tragic incident occurred in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, when a pickup truck fell off a flyover, resulting in the deaths of four people and critical injuries to another. The accident took place on the Shahdara Chungi flyover, located in the Trans Yamuna area of the city, casting a pall of gloom over the community.
According to police reports, the pickup vehicle was laden with mangoes and was ascending the flyover when the driver lost control. The vehicle then veered off the edge of the structure and plummeted onto morning walkers who were resting below. The impact of the falling truck was devastating, resulting in the immediate deaths of three of the walkers.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Hemant Kumar provided details of the incident, stating that the three morning walkers were sitting beneath the flyover when the truck fell on them. The deceased have been identified as Rajesh (65), Rameshwar (60), and Haribabu (63). The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Krishna (22), also died in the accident. The driver's helper sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
Initial investigations suggest that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the loss of control and the subsequent accident. However, authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the tragedy. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem examination.
The incident has sparked outrage and grief among the local community, with many questioning the safety measures in place on the flyover. Concerns have been raised about the lack of adequate barriers or fencing that could have prevented the vehicle from falling off the edge. Residents are calling for stricter regulations and safety checks to prevent such accidents from happening in the future.
This unfortunate event adds to a series of recent road accidents in Uttar Pradesh. On the same day, in Bulandshahr district, five people died after their car rammed into a bridge, overturned, and caught fire. Also, two people were killed and several others injured when a bus collided with a truck on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. Just a day prior, in Sitapur district, four boys were killed when a speeding truck overturned and crushed them. These incidents highlight the urgent need for improved road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations in the state. The government has been urged to take immediate action to address the rising number of road accidents and ensure the safety of commuters and pedestrians alike.
