Vipin Raghuvanshi, the brother of Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore-based businessman who was murdered during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, has alleged that the prime accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and other suspects are misleading the police in their investigation. He is seeking an extension of their police remand to facilitate further interrogation and uncover the full truth behind the crime.
According to Vipin, Sonam and the other accused have yet to confess to their crimes and are actively attempting to misdirect the police. He believes that an additional eight days of police remand is necessary to allow investigators to delve deeper into the case and extract accurate information from the suspects.
The Meghalaya Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) is actively investigating the murder, and recently reconstructed the crime scene in Sohra with Sonam and three other accused present. According to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem, the reconstruction provided a "very clear picture" of the events.
Meanwhile, Raja's elder brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, has also called for a narco analysis test to be conducted on Sonam and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha. He believes that the duo are colluding to misdirect the probe by blaming each other and that more individuals were involved in the conspiracy but remain at large. Sachin alleges that Sonam's mother may have been aware of her daughter's relationship with Kushwaha before the wedding.
The case has garnered national attention due to the chilling nature of the crime and the suspected conspiracy surrounding it. Raja and Sonam married on May 11 and traveled to Sohra (Cherrapunjee) in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district for their honeymoon shortly after. They were reported missing on May 23, and Raja's body was discovered on June 2 in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls. Sonam resurfaced on June 9 in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, where she surrendered to the police.
The investigation has revealed that Sonam allegedly used an account belonging to Jitendra Raghuvanshi, her maternal cousin and a junior employee at her family's business, to make initial payments to the hitmen involved in Raja's murder. This has raised suspicions of potential hawala links and has brought Sonam's family business under scrutiny.
According to reports, Raja was first attacked with a machete by Vishal Singh Chauhan, one of the three hitmen allegedly hired by Raj Kushwaha. Sonam was allegedly present during the attack and fled the scene after Raja was struck, returning only after he had died. The murder took place in a secluded area near the Wei Sawdong Falls, chosen for its remoteness.
