The untimely death of industrialist Sunjay Kapur in London on June 12, 2025, sent shockwaves through both the business and Bollywood circles. Kapur, the ex-husband of actress Karisma Kapoor, passed away at the age of 53 after reportedly suffering a heart attack while playing polo. The news of his sudden demise prompted Karisma Kapoor to travel to Delhi with her children, Samaira and Kiaan, to attend his funeral.

Karisma Kapoor was first spotted at a private airport in Mumbai on Thursday morning, accompanied by her children, as they made their way to Delhi. She was dressed in a simple white suit, while her son Kiaan wore a white kurta-pyjama, and her daughter Samaira was also seen in a white suit. The family maintained a low profile as they entered the airport, understandably somber during this difficult time.

The funeral took place at the Lodhi Road Cremation Ground in New Delhi on June 19, 2025. Karisma Kapoor, along with her children, paid floral tributes to Sunjay Kapur. A video circulating on social media showed Karisma in a white suit, her children beside her, as they honored the departed. Also present at the funeral were Kareena Kapoor Khan and her husband, Saif Ali Khan, who offered their support to Karisma and her family.

Sources indicate that Kiaan, Sunjay and Karisma’s son, was visibly emotional at the funeral and was comforted by his mother and other family members. The atmosphere was heavy with grief as family and well-wishers gathered to pay their last respects.

Sunjay Kapur's family had released a press note on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, providing details about the funeral. The note also mentioned a prayer meeting to be held on Sunday, June 22, between 4 pm and 5 pm at the Taj Palace Hotel in Delhi. The prayer meeting announcement was signed by his mother, Rani Surinder Kapur, his wife Priya, and their children Safira and Azarias, and also included the names of Samaira and Kiaan, his children with Karisma.

Sunjay Kapur's death has brought his personal life back into the spotlight. He married Karisma Kapoor in 2003, and they have two children, Samaira and Kiaan. The couple officially divorced in 2016 after a prolonged legal battle. Following their divorce, Sunjay Kapur married Priya Sachdev in 2017, and they have a son named Azarias.

Reports suggest that the funeral arrangements were initially delayed due to legal formalities related to Sunjay Kapur's US citizenship. The exact cause of the heart attack is yet to be officially confirmed.

Sunjay Kapur was a prominent figure in the automotive industry, serving as the Chairman of Sona Comstar and also held the role of President of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA). His contribution to the automotive sector was widely recognized.

As Karisma Kapoor navigates this personal tragedy, she is surrounded by her family and loved ones. The Kapoor family has always been known for their solidarity, and this difficult time is no different. The prayer meeting scheduled for June 22 will provide another opportunity for family and friends to come together and remember Sunjay Kapur.
