Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the Yoga Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. He will participate in a mass yoga demonstration with over three lakh people along a 26-kilometer stretch from RK Beach to Bhogapuram. The event, organized by the Andhra Pradesh government, aims to set a Guinness World Record with the participation of millions across the state. Preparations have been extensive, with provisions for participants at eight lakh locations and over two crore registrations.
The "Yoga Sangam" initiative aims to synchronize yoga demonstrations across more than 10 lakh locations nationwide. This ambitious program seeks to promote yoga's accessibility and encourage widespread participation, reinforcing its role in holistic health and well-being.
In his message to the nation, PM Modi highlighted yoga's global impact and urged local leaders to champion the celebrations. His call has sparked increased yoga activities in Panchayats, Anganwadis, and Health Centers, demonstrating yoga's expanding reach in rural India.
Other notable events across India include a major program at the historic Red Fort in Delhi, organized by Brahma Kumaris with support from the Ministry of Ayush. Additionally, 25,000 tribal children in Andhra University performed 108 Surya Namaskars in 108 minutes, showcasing yoga's integration into diverse communities.
Globally, Indian missions and cultural centers are commemorating the day with yoga demonstrations. The UN Headquarters in New York is hosting a special event organized by the Permanent Mission of India to the UN. CGI New York also marked International Yoga Day 2025 with celebrations in Westchester and Times Square.
