A 24-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife in a Delhi hotel. The crime came to light after the accused, Gopal Sharma, called the Uttar Pradesh Police and confessed to strangling his 24-year-old wife, Kriti Sharma, to death. The incident occurred in a hotel room in Delhi's Paharganj area.
According to the police, the Highway Police Station in Mathura received a call from Gopal in the early hours of Saturday, June 21, 2025, where he admitted to the crime. Following this confession, the Mathura police contacted the New Victoria Hotel in Paharganj, Delhi, and requested the manager to check on a specific room.
Prem Kumar, the hotel manager, upon checking the room, found Kriti Sharma lying motionless on the bed. The police were immediately alerted, and a team confirmed that she had been strangled.
Initial investigations revealed that Gopal and Kriti had checked into the hotel at 6:35 PM on June 20. Later that evening, around 9:00 PM, Gopal left the hotel, telling the staff he was going out to get food. However, he never returned and instead fled to Mathura.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan stated that after fleeing to Mathura, Gopal called the 112 emergency number and confessed to killing his wife. The Mathura police then traced and detained him at the Highway Police Station before informing the Delhi Police.
Gopal Sharma was subsequently handed over to the Paharganj Police in Delhi, where he was formally arrested and booked for murder. During interrogation, Gopal confessed to the crime, stating that he suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair. This suspicion led to a heated argument, and in a fit of rage, he strangled Kriti to death, according to the police.
The police have registered a case of murder and are currently investigating the matter further. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and efforts are being made to contact Kriti Sharma's family members. It remains unclear why the couple, who were residents of Mathura, had traveled to Delhi.
