A shocking incident has come to light in Uttar Pradesh's Bhadohi district, where a 22-year-old nurse was allegedly molested, beaten, and dragged by her hair by an ambulance driver at a private hospital. Police have registered a case against the accused, identified as Rohit alias Mohit, who is currently absconding.
According to Kotwali SHO Sachidanand Pandey, the incident occurred on June 5th when the nurse was on duty. Rohit approached her and began molesting her. When she resisted, he allegedly grabbed her hair, physically assaulted her, and threw her to the ground. The accused further harassed the nurse by reportedly touching her inappropriately and performing obscene acts.
The SHO added that other hospital staff intervened and reprimanded Rohit before sending him away. Authorities have stated that Rohit frequently visits the hospital with patients. Efforts are underway to apprehend him.
A case has been registered against Rohit under several sections of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the new penal code which is yet to come into effect), including Section 76 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), Section 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt).
Police sources indicate that both the nurse and the accused belong to the Dalit community. The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the safety and security of healthcare workers, particularly women, in Uttar Pradesh hospitals. This incident is not isolated, as previous reports detail similar cases of harassment and assault involving ambulance drivers and healthcare staff in the state.
