The Indian men's freestyle wrestling team has etched its name in the history books by clinching the team title at the Asian U23 Wrestling Championships 2025, held in Vung Tau, Vietnam. This momentous achievement is India's best-ever performance in the freestyle category at any Asian Wrestling Championship, marking a significant milestone in the nation's wrestling journey.

The team's stellar performance was highlighted by an impressive haul of six gold medals and one silver. This dominant display underscored India's growing strength in international wrestling and the emergence of a new generation of talented grapplers. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has acknowledged the unwavering support and guidance from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Sports Authority of India (SAI), and the entire wrestling fraternity in achieving this remarkable success.

Nikhil spearheaded India's golden charge in the 61kg category, dethroning the defending champion Merey Bazarbayev of Kazakhstan with a decisive 7-2 victory. Nikhil's superior strategy and mat awareness were evident as he effectively neutralized Bazarbayev's attacks and capitalized on every opportunity. This victory not only secured a gold medal but also positioned Nikhil as one of the most promising upcoming stars in Indian freestyle wrestling.

Sujeet Kalkal reaffirmed his dominance in the 65kg category, securing his second U23 Asian title. He showcased his relentless aggression and technical superiority by outclassing Uzbekistan's Umidjon Jalolov with a 10-0 technical superiority victory. Sujeet's consistency on the continental stage highlights his exceptional preparation and competitive mindset, strengthening his case for future World Championship and Olympic qualification bids.

Jaideep showcased his determination and skill in the 74kg final, securing a gold medal after a dominant performance against Zafarbek Otakhonov of Uzbekistan. This victory marked a redemption arc for Jaideep, who had previously won a silver medal at the same event.

Chandermohan added to India's gold medal tally with a commanding performance in the 79kg category. His dominance on the mat reflected his relentless training and unwavering focus.

Sachin shone brightly in the 92kg final, clinching another gold medal for India. His exceptional technique and strategic prowess were on full display as he outmaneuvered his opponents.

Vicky capped off India's golden run with a thrilling comeback victory in the 97kg category. His resilience and determination were commendable as he fought back to secure the gold medal.

Jaspooran Singh contributed to the team's success by winning a silver medal in the 125kg category. His performance showcased his potential and added to India's medal tally.

The success of the men's freestyle team followed the outstanding performance of the Indian women's wrestling team, who also secured the Champion Trophy at the same event. The women's team won medals in all 10 weight categories, including four gold and five silver medals.

Priyanshi Prajapat (50kg), Reena (55kg), Srishti (68kg), and Priya (76kg) secured gold medals in the women's competition.

The combined success of both the men's and women's teams underscores India's growing strength in wrestling and its potential to become a dominant force on the international stage. These achievements will undoubtedly inspire future generations of wrestlers in India and further elevate the sport's popularity in the country.
