A tragic fire at a plastic articles manufacturing unit in Nagarthapet, near K R Market in Bengaluru, has claimed the lives of five people. The victims include a family of four and their neighbor. The deceased have been identified as Madan Singh, 38, his wife Sangeetha, 33, their two children, Rithesh, 7, and Vihaan, 5, and their neighbor Suresh Kumar, 26. Madan Singh, originally from Rajasthan, had been renting the building for approximately 10 years. He operated a small manufacturing unit producing plastic kitchen items, mats, and steel kitchen utensils. The family resided on the top floor of the building.
The fire department received a distress call at approximately 3:14 AM. Authorities suspect an electrical spark may have triggered the blaze. Fire officials stated that the building's use as a storage space, filled with various materials, made extinguishing the fire particularly challenging. Eight fire vehicles were dispatched to the scene, with 55 firefighters and 21 officers working to control the flames. The building was located in a densely populated trading area of the city.
As of noon on Saturday, fire crews were still working to fully extinguish the fire. Rescue operations are ongoing, and the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. The incident occurred a day after a suspected cylinder explosion near Wilson Garden, which resulted in one death and nine injuries.
