The New York Rangers have solidified their center depth by signing forward Adam Edström to a two-year contract extension. The deal, announced on Monday, June 23, 2025, is worth $1.95 million, carrying an annual average value (AAV) of $975,000.

Edström, 24, is coming off a season where he established career highs in several categories. In 51 games, he scored five goals and four assists for nine points while averaging 9:16 of ice time. He also ranked third on the team with 94 hits, showcasing his physical presence on the ice. Unfortunately, his season was cut short due to a lower-body injury sustained on February 1st against the Boston Bruins, which required surgery.

Prior to the injury, Edström was developing into a reliable player for the Rangers, particularly on the fourth line. His strong play earned him the Lars-Erik Sjoberg Award, given annually to the top Rangers rookie in training camp, as selected by the media.

Standing at 6'7" and weighing 240 pounds, Edström brings size and physicality to the Rangers' lineup. Drafted by the Rangers in the sixth round (161st overall) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, the Karlstad, Sweden native has played 62 career NHL games, amassing seven goals and four assists. Before making the jump to North America, Edström played in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) for five seasons, notching 23 goals and 25 assists in 189 games.

This extension indicates the Rangers' confidence in Edström's potential to contribute as a bottom-six forward. His physical style of play and improving offensive capabilities make him a valuable asset to the team's depth.

Edström himself expressed excitement about returning strong for the upcoming season. He felt that he, Matt Rempe, and Sam Carrick were developing good chemistry on the fourth line before his injury. The Rangers hope that this trio can continue to build on that chemistry and provide energy and physicality to the team's bottom lines.

With Edström's contract secured, the Rangers still have several restricted free agents to address this offseason, including Will Cuylle, Arthur Kaliyev, Jake Leschyshyn, Brendan Brisson, Lucas Edmonds, K'Andre Miller, Zac Jones, Dylan Garand, and Talyn Boyko.
