A rather unusual incident occurred recently in Madhya Pradesh, impacting the convoy of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. Nineteen vehicles that were supposed to be part of his convoy faced a significant setback when they were filled with water-contaminated diesel at a petrol pump in Ratlam district. The incident led to the vehicles breaking down and the subsequent sealing of the petrol pump while authorities launched an investigation.
The vehicles were en route from Indore, intending to join the Chief Minister's convoy for a regional industry skill and development conclave in Ratlam on Friday. According to Shubham Parmar, one of the drivers, the convoy stopped at a petrol pump to refuel. Shortly after leaving the station, vehicles began to stall, some on the highway and others still at the pump. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the fuel was mixed with water.
Local authorities were promptly alerted. Ashish Upadhyay, the local naib tehsildar, reported that an investigation is currently underway. Initial inquiries with the petrol pump authorities suggested that rainwater may have seeped into the diesel tanks in recent days, leading to the contamination. Consequently, the petrol pump has been sealed, and authorities are working to locate the owner of the establishment. Fuel samples have also been sent for testing to ascertain the extent of the contamination. Some reports indicate that there was as much as 10 liters of water for every 20 liters of diesel.
The incident caused considerable disruption. Videos circulating online showed the affected vehicles being pushed to the side of the road. Fortunately, officials were able to arrange for a replacement fleet from Indore, ensuring that Chief Minister Yadav's schedule remained unaffected.
The Food and Civil Supplies Department also got involved, collecting samples that confirmed the presence of water in the diesel. A Food Department officer, Anand Gole, stated that while the exact quantity of water was still under investigation, a detailed report would be submitted to the Ratlam Collector.
While the incident's immediate impact was on the Chief Minister's convoy, it has raised concerns about fuel quality control and potential negligence. Authorities are exploring all angles, including the possibility of rainwater seepage or other factors that may have led to the contamination. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of regular checks and maintenance to prevent such occurrences, which can cause significant inconvenience and potential damage to vehicles.
