Prime Minister Narendra Modi is embarking on a significant five-nation tour from July 2 to July 9, 2025, with stops in Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. This visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations with these countries and participate in the BRICS Summit in Brazil. The tour emphasizes India's commitment to the Global South and seeks to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including economic, energy, defense, and trade.
Ghana
PM Modi's visit to Ghana on July 2-3 marks the first prime ministerial visit from India in three decades. This reflects the growing importance of Ghana in India's foreign policy. Discussions with the President of Ghana will focus on strengthening the bilateral partnership and exploring opportunities to enhance collaboration in economic, energy, and defense sectors, as well as development cooperation. This visit will also reaffirm the shared commitment of both countries to deepen bilateral ties and strengthen India's engagement with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union. Both leaders will engage in discussions aimed at deepening cooperation across various sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, technology, education, healthcare, and energy. They will also exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. Key highlights of the visit will include the signing of several bilateral agreements to consolidate cooperation frameworks between Ghana and India, followed by a joint Press Conference addressed by the President of Ghana and PM Modi. The President of Ghana will also host a State Dinner in honor of PM Modi and his delegation.
Trinidad and Tobago
From July 3-4, PM Modi will visit Trinidad and Tobago, the first Prime Ministerial visit to the Caribbean nation since 1999. Invited by the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, PM Modi will meet with both the President and Prime Minister to discuss further strengthening bilateral ties. He is also expected to address a Joint Session of the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago. This visit is expected to boost the deep-rooted historical ties between the two countries.
Argentina
PM Modi will travel to Argentina on July 4-5, where he will meet with President Javier Milei. The agenda includes enhancing cooperation in defense, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade and investment, and people-to-people ties. This visit aims to deepen the strategic partnership between India and Argentina. Both India and Argentina share common values and a stable trade relationship, which was elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2019. Key areas of discussion will include terrorism, lithium, agriculture, LNG, and nuclear cooperation. Indian mining firms are already working in the Catamarca province of northern Argentina, exploring lithium deposits.
Brazil
PM Modi will visit Brazil from July 5-8 to attend the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, followed by a State Visit to Brasilia. This will be his fourth visit to Brazil. During the BRICS Summit, he will exchange views on key global issues such as reform of global governance, peace and security, strengthening multilateralism, responsible use of artificial intelligence, climate action, global health, and economic and financial matters. He is also likely to hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Summit. For the State Visit, PM Modi will hold bilateral discussions with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on broadening the strategic partnership between the two countries in areas of mutual interest, including trade, defense, energy, space, technology, agriculture, health, and people-to-people linkages. India and Brazil share a close and multifaceted relationship, elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2006. Both countries cooperate in plurilateral forums such as BRICS, IBSA, G20, and in multilateral bodies like the UN, WTO, and UNESCO.
Namibia
In the final leg of his tour, PM Modi will visit Namibia on July 9 at the invitation of the President of Namibia. This will be his first visit to Namibia and the third ever Prime Ministerial visit from India to the country. He will hold bilateral talks with the President and pay homage to Namibia's Founding Father. PM Modi is also scheduled to address the Namibian Parliament. The visit aims to reaffirm India's longstanding and multi-dimensional ties with Namibia.
