Airtel users across India experienced widespread network outages on Monday, August 18, 2025, causing disruption to mobile data and voice services. The issues started surfacing around 3:30 PM IST, and reports of disruption skyrocketed, with over 2,300 reports logged on Downdetector by 4:04 PM.
The outage impacted users in major cities, including Delhi, Surat, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata. Frustrated customers turned to social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to voice their complaints, with many sharing memes and sarcastic posts about the situation. Users reported issues with making calls, sending messages, and accessing mobile internet.
According to Downdetector, the majority of the complaints were related to mobile phone issues (56%), followed by mobile internet disruptions (26%) and no signal (18%). Specifically, 51% of users reported facing issues with calls, while 31% complained about internet connectivity. The remaining 18% reported having no signal on their Airtel numbers. Some users reported that they were unable to make phone calls due to a lack of network signal. However, some users in affected regions could still access mobile data and internet services.
Airtel acknowledged the network outage and stated that their team was actively working to resolve the issue and restore services promptly. An Airtel spokesperson stated that the company regrets the temporary network disruption in certain areas. The company sincerely apologized for the inconvenience caused.
This isn't the first time Airtel users have faced network issues. In May 2025, Airtel experienced a temporary service disruption across several regions in India. During that outage, 65% of users reported no signal, 21% experienced issues with mobile phone services, and 13% faced disruptions with mobile internet connectivity. In December 2024, Airtel customers across India faced a service disruption affecting both mobile and broadband connectivity.
The cause of the current outage remains unclear. However, the company has not yet released any official confirmation regarding the specific regions impacted by the downtime. As the situation unfolds, Airtel users are hoping for a swift resolution to restore connectivity and minimize disruption to their daily lives.
