The city of Kanpur is gearing up to host a unique event, the 'Operation Sindoor Cup 2025', on June 29 at the historic Green Park International Stadium. This event is dedicated to honoring the courage and sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces, particularly in light of the recent Operation Sindoor, which was launched following the terror attack in Pahalgam.
The centerpiece of the event is a friendly 20-20 cricket match between the Army XI and Parliament XI. This match is viewed as a symbolic gesture, building a bridge between the armed forces and the public, using cricket as a platform for unity, remembrance, and celebration.
The Operation Sindoor Cup is being organized under the leadership of Kanpur MP Ramesh Awasthi, with Kanpur Commissioner Akhil Kumar serving as the event's co-convener. Awasthi emphasized that this event is more than just a game; it's a movement to salute the soldiers, celebrate their heroism, and ignite patriotic pride among citizens.
Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari is set to captain the Parliament XI, which will include lawmakers from both the ruling and opposition parties, highlighting the unity behind this tribute. Brigadier Hasan will lead the Army XI team, which will consist of Army officers, police officers, and district administration officers. Senior leaders from both central and state governments are expected to attend the match as guests, showing their support for the Armed Forces.
The trophy for the 'Operation Sindoor Cup' was unveiled on Saturday, featuring a cricket bat, a Brahmos missile, and a Rafale jet. The match is meant to celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor, which was launched by the Indian Armed Forces against Pakistan-backed terror groups after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The Indian Armed Forces carried out targeted strikes against terror infrastructure. The operation was a response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam where 26 people were killed. Operation Sindoor was launched early May 7 to destroy nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir.
The gates will open to the public at 4:00 PM, with cultural events scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM. Prior to the match, the Indian Army Jazz Band will perform a musical tribute, and civil aviators will conduct aerial flower showers. Celebrity singer Swati Mishra, known for her patriotic song "Apne Apne Ram," will also deliver a live performance. Entry to the event is free, with 15,000 to 20,000 spectator passes being distributed across six city centers and the MP's office in Kanpur. Spectators are encouraged to attend the game wearing the tricolor. An hour-long cultural presentation will follow the match.
