In a shocking incident in Karnataka, a woman and her lover have been accused of murdering her husband in a premeditated attack. The crime, which occurred on June 24, 2025, took place in Kadashettihalli village, located in the Tiptur taluk of the Tumakuru district. The victim, identified as 50-year-old Shankaramurthy, was reportedly living alone at a farmhouse when the gruesome events unfolded.
The alleged perpetrators, Sumangala (the wife) and her lover, are said to have conspired to kill Shankaramurthy, believing he was an obstacle to their relationship. According to police reports, Sumangala carried out the heinous act by first throwing chili powder into Shankaramurthy's eyes. She then proceeded to beat him with a club before ultimately pressing her foot against his neck, suffocating him to death.
To conceal their crime, the accused placed Shankaramurthy's body in a gunny sack and transported it approximately 30 kilometers away. They then disposed of the body in a well situated on a farm within the jurisdiction of the Dandanishivara police station in Turuvekere taluk.
Initially, the case was registered as a missing person complaint at the Nonavinakere Police Station. However, during the search operation, authorities discovered traces of chili powder and signs of a struggle on the victim's bed, raising suspicions of foul play. Further investigation, including the interrogation of Sumangala and analysis of her mobile phone records, led the police to uncover the murder plot. Eventually, Sumangala confessed to the crime.
Another similar incident occurred in Karnataka where Pallavi, wife of former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash, was arrested for his murder. Preliminary investigations revealed that Pallavi and Om Prakash had a dispute, which led to Pallavi allegedly throwing chili powder at him, tying him up, and stabbing him to death with a kitchen knife. She also allegedly attacked him with a glass bottle. After the murder, Pallavi is said to have sent a text message to a friend, the wife of another retired IPS officer, confessing to killing "a monster". She also made a WhatsApp video call to the retired officer's wife and showed Prakash's body lying in a pool of blood.
The investigation into Shankaramurthy's murder is currently ongoing at the Nonavinakere police station.
